Boxing is a fantastic sport to get into, especially from my vantage point as a spectator. I'll never enter the ring, but I'll spend all day writing, reading, or watching someone get beaten up. It has an element of art to it as well; it may be a very quiet art, but it is still an art. It all started with bare knuckles and a lot of wrestling, so the sport wasn't always so pretty. It would have resembled today's UFC fights, but without the Asian and martial arts aspects of today's contests.
It appeared to me to be a really nasty sport that, through time, legitimised itself as something so magnificent and so an event that it drew people from all over the world to rise up and cheer. Boxing has been the subject of so many films that we must acknowledge that it has become an integral part of our culture and society today. Boxing is simply who we are, still vying for that one prize that we have yet to claim. Do we truly want to stop once we've claimed it, or do we want to keep looking for new prizes?
Famous Sports Players:
I believe we experienced this not long ago with George Foreman, who returned as an elderly guy and won the world heavyweight championship. It was insane, but we all leapt for delight on the inside when that good family man did what we all dream we could do: defy the odds and become a hero, if not to the rest of the world, at least to his own family.
Boxing is divided into two categories: amateur and professional. Pro boxing does not require headgear, lasts longer, is less well protected, can get away with more, and the fighters are compensated. Armature boxers are not paid, they must wear protective headgear, the referee will quickly stop about if he believes the fighter is in danger, and they will not let you get away with much that is not according to the rules.
Professional boxing is significantly more well-known. Mike Tyson only fought a few amateur fights before going pro, but when he did, everyone in the boxing world and the general public knew who he was. This man was a total hottie. He has recently taken the world by storm. He may have been the greatest ever if he had the appropriate backing and was in the right mind, but I believe we will have to give that accolade to Muhammad Ali.
He made a huge impact on the sport and produced a lot of hype. I only wish boxing now had someone like these dudes. Mixed Martial Arts appears to have taken over, and no one wants to box any longer. I don't mind MMA or the UFC; I just wish I could have both instead of having to choose between them.
